About Me
From an early age, Andrew knew he wanted to be an artist. Growing up in Yorkshire, he developed a deep connection to the natural world, a relationship that continues to inform and inspire his work today. The ever-changing beauty of the landscape around him provides a constant source of inspiration, with each season and time of day offering a fresh palette of colours, light, and atmosphere to explore.
“I have developed a practice rooted in observation, working primarily in oils. My subjects range from intimate family scenes and portraiture to both rural and urban landscapes. At the heart of my work is the act of looking — analysing, interpreting, and understanding the world through paint.
As an oil painter, I am particularly drawn to the subtle interplay of light and colour. While my subject matter is diverse, it is painting en plein air, immersed in the landscape itself, that truly fuels my creativity.”
Andrew first exhibited with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 2014 and was elected a full member in 2019. His work has received widespread recognition, earning several prestigious awards, including the Winsor & Newton First Prize and Second Prize Awards for Painting, as well as the Menena Joy Schabe Memorial Award.
